I seldom agree with Governor Christie. I don't want him to be president (an ambition I suspect he harbors). But this situation calls for plain speaking and he's the go-to guy:
The Republican defense of Speaker Boehner's behavior is that the bill in question was filled with pork.
Many bills are filled with pork. The proper response is to bring the bill to the floor, point out the pork, discuss it, fight over it, remove what you can, and then vote on it.
Another proper response is to propose a different bill with no pork.
Neither of these things happened. Instead, Speaker Boehner literally turned his back on the innocent victims of a natural disaster and walked out of the chamber.
Discussing nothing. Proposing nothing.
A true Deafening Silence.
